IZ: Epoch 2, Codex 0, part 1, pg. 3

She ran back from the doorway to her room.  Heading straight for the closet, she flung open the doors and yanked a raincoat on.  She quickly put the coat on over her pajamas and reached for her black rain-boots. Flicking off her sandals and jamming her paws into the boots, she clop-clopped back to the backyard door and entered the deluge.  The rain was hard, and the lawn was turning into a carpet of sticky mud that threatened to eat up her rain-boots with every step.  But she had to hurry out there.

When she finally reached what she had seen, she gasped again at the realization of it.  Before her, drenched in rainwater and loam, was a young Gaian cat, with bleached-white fur in patches on its super-skinny body.  She could see scars, scrapes, and sores, where there wasn't any of that scant, wiry white fur or pale-gray skin, from ears to tail.  The cat was unbelievably lanky, possibly even anorexic, as if it hadn't been fed in ages.  It looked like a nightmare.

Karry slowly bent down to the ground over the cat and stared.  The face was pointed away from her, so it took her a second to see that it was a very young male, and his shallow breathing meant he was unconscious from some sort of trauma, probably as a result of whatever gave him those cuts and--

Karry started.  Wait, he was breathing?!
