IZ: Epoch 2, Codex 0, part 1, pg. 2

In truth, it was a very peculiar lightning-strike, if it even was one.  The light was sustained for a lot longer than a single second, and the rumble of thunder never came.  From the intensity of the light, Karry thought it landed right in her own backyard.

She went for the glass backyard door, and opened it to get a better view.  The light was... warbling.  It shimmered and shook the air around its location, which Karry could tell was just before the crest of the hill in her backyard, which was about 50 feet away and was adorned with that single tree.  The light was still there, but Karry was surprised to see that the 'lightning' was hovering in the sky there, forming what looked like a ring of changing colors and rapidly spinning in place.

All of a sudden, Karry saw something fall from the hole in the sky and land with a huge 'plop' in the grassy mud.  A second later, the portal dissipated.  Karry strained to focus her eyesight into the night, to see what it was that fell.  When her night vision adjusted enough, she stared at the object there.  Her eyes slowly grew wide when she came to the realization of what she saw.
